Buried for about 4500 years, the funerary boat of Khufu was only discovered in 1954 at the foot of the pyramid of Cheops. It was found during work around the great pyramid.The bark, cedar wood, fitted with all its equipment - oars, ropes and cabin - comprised 1224 parts. It measures 43.5 meters long, its bow is 5 m and its stern to 7 m. Rise, it is currently on display in the museum located exactly at the place where it was found.
The museum was built at the foot of the pyramid of Cheops south side, above a pit that housed a solar boats when discovered.
Five graves solar boats were discovered to date but only two of them still contained a wooden boat. One is exposed, and besides taking damage (deformation) of this fact, the other is kept in optimum conditions to ensure its preservation.
